Conceptual Understanding:
The operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division are related to each other and are used to process information to solve problems.
Learning Intention:
Students will be able to
• model multiplication and division of whole numbers
• use the language of multiplication and division, for example, multiple, product, factor,divisor, quotient and dividend

Lesson Steps
Step 1: Prior Knowledge Check (Engage)
Teacher
Teacher gives a word problem on division to check students’ prior knowledge and then compares their work using share and compare feature.
To enhance critical thinking skills, teacher assigns division based questions catering to the needs of the students.
Student
Task 1: Students solve the word problem using picture card/video card/text card and submit their work for review.
Task 2: Students will use their critical thinking skills and answer the questions.

Step 2: Constructing Meaning (Explore)
Teacher
Teacher briefly discusses the different ways to divide (Using repeated subtraction, array, grouping, skip counting). She asks them to categorize these strategies under fast, accurate and easy using the thinking tool. She discusses the responses with the students and then introduces long division.
Teacher focusses on DMSB strategy using picture cards and web cards (highlighting the division vocab eg: quotient, dividend etc)
Student
Students categorize the division strategies under fast, accurate and easy and then solve the equation. Students understand long division using web card, picture card and practice long division using DMSB strategy.

Step 3: Transferring Meaning (Explain)
Teacher
Teacher provides equations to assess students' understanding. Teacher carries out a discussion through which students learn about a number’s divisibility by 10 and its multiples.
Student
Students will transfer their previous understanding of division to make connections with the given pattern. Students will practice long division to understand divisibility by 10 and its multiples.

Step 4: Application (Elaborate)
Teacher
Teacher will do a quick recap and ask the students to apply their understanding of division by creating division games.
Student
Students will create a division game and record a video explaining the game, it’s objective and how it is played.

Assessment (Evaluate):
Students will be assessed on their understanding of long division through a MCQ based quiz.

Exit slip:
Students use the thinking tool (What I used to think and What I think now) to reflect on their concept learnings.
